This is the day it becomes illegal for a driver to drive a private
hire vehicle unless you have a temporary licence. Some drivers have
already in receipt of this. I have been advised by the Public Carriage
Office that every driver should receive the temporary licence within
the next 4 weeks as 30,000 are being sent by Royal Mail.
We will be asking every driver for a copy of the licence for our records.
Any driver who has not furnished us with a copy by June 1 2003 will
not be able to work until we have a copy on record. I can assure you
that Data Cars will give you the necessary help to receive your licence
from the PCO if you haven't received your Licence by Friday May 9
2003. We will help you contact the PCO directly. You will be required
to attend the Eltham Office by appointment with Kevin.
Fare decrease in the Greenwich area
I have made a decision to reduce all the set fares from the Greenwich
Office to all London stations except Paddington be £4.00 from
the current price list. We have also reduced the set fare to City
Airport from Greenwich Office by £4.00 to £16.00. I
have made this decision to match the present market in the area.
Insurance reduced
Last month the insurance rate was reduced to all drivers by £10.00.
We are hopeful that we should be announcing a new rate shortly which
will be set for One year. I will release a notice as soon as the
scheme is introduced.
No Charge for Drivers Credit/Debit Card payments.
Data Cars will no longer charge drivers who pay by mastercard or
visa credit/debit cards. This transaction would be preferred on
Wednesdays as Thursdays are too busy. If can call the Eltham Office
on 0870-850 7747 anytime from Wednesday mid day. The controller
will advise you of your balance and once you give him your card
details we will debit your card. You can pick up your rent sheet
from the drivers room rent tray at your convenience.

New Free-phone at Safeways Sidcup
Data Cars are proud to announce that we have been awarded the contract
to provide Safeways new store at Sidcup with a taxi freephone for
its customers. This facility starts on Wednesday April 30 2003.
New Eltham office
YOU CANNOT PLOT AT THE NEW ELTHAM STATION PLOT UNTIL YOU HAVE TURNED
INTO THE APPROACH. If you want to pick up a job at New Eltham Station
you must first plot "APP NE STN" which is APPROACHING
NEW ELTHAM STATION. This plot confirms you want to take work from
New Eltham Station.
Kevin's appointments and availability
During this licensing process, we ask drivers to telephone the office
staff before attending the Eltham office if you require to see Kevin
for any reason including the late payment of rents on Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesdays.
How to do a download
Please keep this paper, as from time to time we will require to
add new or remove zones/areas to the system you will require "A
DOWNLOAD" This shows you step by step instructions on how to
complete this action.
This takes 10 seconds if carried out correctly. Please follow these
instructions:- Call the controller on voice when you are parked
(at least 1/2 mile away from the Eltham High St office) and ask
"FOR A DOWNLOAD" he will allow for you to switch the set
off and set the system ready.
1). TURN THE RADIO OFF AND THEN BACK ON BY THE ON/OFF SWITCH"
2). ON THE DATA HEAD SCREEN PRESS THE MIDDLE BUTTON MARKED "DATA"
ONCE. YOU WILL THEN SEE ZONES LIKE HIGH ST ETC
3) THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART "WAIT AND DO NOT TOUCH ANY PART
OF THE DATA HEAD SCREEN INCLUDING THE SCROLLER FOR 20 SECS"
4) AFTER 20 SECS TURN THE SCROLLER, THIS SHOULD REVEAL THE NEW ZONES.

Overcharging
In March we had a spell of customers reporting overcharging by a
small minority of drivers. Fortunately we dealt with drivers concerned
with verbal warnings and had to ask one driver to leave the company.
We will continue to monitor any reports of overcharging to protect
you the honest driver, the company and the customer. .
Advertising Campaign
Starting May 1 2003 Data Cars plan a massive advertising campaign.
We have put our massive database to use, together with Royal Mail
we are filling up the gaps. If a house address in Eltham is not
on our database then they will receive a letter including a keying
and various Data Cars advertising stationary. We have also, once
again targeted every social club in the area.
We are also presently dropping cards in Greenwich and Charlton.
The voice channel
PLEASE KEEP OFF THE VOICE UNLESS YOU HAVE A GENUINE REASON.
EVERYTIME YOU CALL UNNECESSARILY YOU TAKE THE OFFICE STAFF AWAY
FROM ANSWERING THE CALLS WHICH EARNS YOU AND OTHER DRIVERS A LIVING.
PLEASE CHECK ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE SCREEN BEFORE YOU CALL.
A JOB COULD BE LOST WHILST YOU DISCUSS SOMETHING WHICH IS ON YOUR
SCREEN.
Introduce a "NEW DRIVER AND RECEIVE A WEEKS FREE RENT"
Any driver who introduces a driver during the month of may will
receive a weeks free rent.
