WHAT IS A TOPOGRAPHICAL TEST

Book a taxi from the airportAll Private Hire Driver Applicants must be tested on their ability to read maps and plan routes from April 2006. Data Cars is an official accredited testing centre and because we were one of the first topographical testing centres we have conducted tests on over 1000 applicants since 2006.

We conduct topographical test every WEDNESDAY 2PM.

GENERAL TOPOGRAPHICAL SKILLS

1). You will be required to read and understand basic written english and have a good command of the english language. Instructions for one task will be provided in writing only to test this.

2). You will be required to look in The Master Greater London A-Z map book and locate streets, districts, stations, and post codes from the A-Z map.

3). You will need to know 4 primary compass points - North, South, East and West.

4). You need to know the names of the counties bordering London. Eg. Kent, Essex, Surrey etc. from the M25 eg:- M20, M11, M1, M4 etc.

5). You would be required to specify the direction from London to a major town or Airport. You may requested which direction from London to Heathrow or from a specified Post Code or Area to Heathow Airport. On this example you will be required to specify which motorway you would use. The answer is M4

ROUTE PLANNING

1). You will be required to plan a local route between two points in the Greater London A-Z Map.

2). You will be required to plan a route between 5 and 30 miles between two points in the Greater London A-Z Map.

3). You will be required to plan a route that is over 30 miles from Central London, using the Greater London A-Z Map, and a local map of the destination area (all maps will be provided) using a motorway where appropriate.

4). You will be required to plan a route that is over 30 miles from Central London using the Greater London A-Z Map, A UK Street Map, and a local map of the destination area (all maps will be provided) avoiding all motorways.
